Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) is working with national professional associations to develop specialist standards for advanced teaching and for principals, including:
- advanced science teaching - Australian Science Teachers Association (ASTA)
- advanced early childhood teaching - Early Childhood Australia (ECA)
- advanced primary teaching - Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers (AAMT), with a number of associations separately involved to extend the breadth and depth of engagement
- principals - Principals Australia on behalf of Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA), Australian Primary Principals Association (APPA), Australian Special Education Principals' Association (ASEPA), Australian Secondary Principals' Association (ASPA) and Catholic Secondary Principals Australia (CaSPA).
JCQTA conducted a forum in April 2007 as part of the initial consultation process. Our submission is available for download. We also had representation at the National Standards Forum in Melbourne in June 2008.
JCQTA held a further consultation forum for primary teachers in June /July 2009.
In 2011 a pilot program with the Principal's Standards is underway and State Education Ministers announced the release of the National Professional Standards for Teachers on 9 February 2011.
