NIQTSL Standards for School Leadership Project

CONSULTATION PHASE The National Institute for Quality Teaching and School Leadership (NIQTSL) recently commissioned the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) to conduct a project reviewing approaches to standards for school leadership and certification.

The main stages in the project include:

1. A critical review of national and international developments in leadership standards

2. Development of an issues paper for consultation with stakeholders

3. Synthesis of responses to the issues paper and preparation of a final report.

ACER has completed the preparation of the Issues Paper and a consultation process will take place over the next two months until mid October. We take pleasure in inviting your organisation or association to take part in the national consultation process and to prepare a response to the Issues Paper.

The Issues Paper is attached to this e-mail, together with a copy of the Consultation Questionnaire. The questionnaire provides a structure to guide your organisation the in the preparation of its response and an opportunity to make general comments about issues related to the development of a system of standards for school leadership in Australia.

Instructions on how to complete the questionnaire are provided with the attached questionnaire. Your views will feed directly into an options paper for a national approach to the development of standards and professional certification for school leaders. A further opportunity to feed into the development of options will be provided by a National Forum which will be held in Canberra in late November.

The details of the Forum are yet to be determined. We look forward to receiving your contribution to this national consultation on a matter of importance to the future of the profession. Yours sincerely
